Latheronwheel path – October ’08
The Caithness Countryside Volunteers met this month (Sunday 26th October) to undertake path improvement works and vegetation control at Latheronwheel woodland. The hardy volunteers spread stone chippings along the path surface and cut back invasive salmonberry growing along the path edges. We were very lucky with the weather for this event as the previous day had been quite horrible; cold windy and some wintry showers. Sunday turned out much nicer and we were sheltered once in the strath. The amount of salmonberry there is almost unbelievable, we cut it back from the path but to control it here would be a huge task. After finishing we enjoyed tea and cakes, including some very nice homemade scones courtesy of Neil! Our refreshments were cut short at the onset of a nasty hail shower but we’d had plenty of time for a blether!
